Starting a Critique Group

When starting a critique group, it is helpful to find out as much information as you can on how to begin.

Questions to think about when starting a group:

  1. Where can I find members for a group?

  2. How many people are needed to start a group?

  3. How often do groups meet?

  4. Who reads each time?

  5. How many pages are read?

  6. How do you critique a piece a writing?

You can find the answers to these questions and more, by reading Are Critique Groups of Any Real Value? by Virgina Boyce.

If you are a member of SCBWI, you can download a copy of "Starting a Critique Group" from the SCBWI website. Make sure you log in first, then go to the Publications page and choose the MEMBERS Click Here... link.

Also, the publishers of Children's Book Insider and write4kids.com has a book called I Couldn't Do It Without My Group. For more information, visit their website.
