About Lesléa Newman 

Right after Lesléa graduated from high school, she became a published author when several of her poems appeared in Seventeen Magazine. Lesléa graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Education, then moved to Boulder, CO to attend the Naropa Institute, where she received a Certificate of Poetics and was Allen Ginsberg's apprentice. 

Currently a full-time author, Lesléa writes picture books, poems, short stories and novels. She has published many books and won many awards, including the Association of Jewish Libraries Notable Book for Young Readers 2002 for her picture book, Runaway Dreidel; the American Booksellers Association Pick of the Lists, Picture Books, 2001 for Cats, Cats, Cats!; and the Silver Award, the Parents' Choice Foundation for Fat Chance (1994).

Lesléa was the Director of Creative Writing at Mt. Holyoke College’s Summer Math Program from 1986 to 1990 and continues to lead writers in her various workshops.
