What is a Schmooze?
A schmooze is an informal gathering of writers and illustrators who network, talk about the craft, markets, and anything else they want to discuss. Some schmoozes are topic-centered, others are free and loose. Most schmoozes are held in the home of the host, but other locations could be bookstores, libraries, or restaurants.

If you would like to hold a schmooze in your area, please contact Ellen Javernick.

Fall Conference
October 2 & 3, 2004
The Green Center, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO
The Golden Hotel, Golden, CO
"Voice, Vision, and Vitality: Bringing Children’s Literature to Life”
How often have editors said they are "looking for a unique voice or style" and how many writers and illustrators have wondered what that was? At our Fall Conference, we will explore what voice is and how to develop yours, as well as how to look at your work with new eyes and make it sing. Award-winning author Julie Anne Peters will be our keynote speaker, sharing her experience and enthusiasm with us. Other speakers include Cecile Goyette, Senior Editor, Dial Books for Young Readers; Mary Lee Donovan, Executive Editor, Candlewick Press; and authors Linda Arms White and Alane Ferguson. Sessions for illustrators will include workshops with illustrator Jane Maday. Sessions for illustrators will include workshops with agent Ronnie Ann Herman of the Herman agency and illustrator Jane Maday.
